Tri-fold brochure, 10.75” x 4.5” (closed), 10.75” x 13” (open), edition of 20
Presenting a brochure questioning the celebration for Alabama’s Bicentennial of statehood in 2019. Citing moments throughout Alabama history, this reflection calls into question the 200 years being celebrated by the state-sponsored bicentennial.
The work features letterpress printed metal and wooden type combined with linocut illustrations. Borrowed text from the Alabama Bicentennial Commission and Alabama Department of Archives & History is contrasted with the artist’s own text. Illustrations depict moments from and icons of Alabama history, before and during “statehood.”
